Karen Schrock, MS

President & CEO

Karen Schrock has been President and CEO of Adult Well-Being Services since 1998. She took a leave of absence in 2002 to serve as the Interim Executive Director of the Detroit/Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency.

From 1978 through 1997, Ms. Schrock worked in the Michigan Department of Public Health, which was incorporated into the Department of Community Health in 1996. She served in a variety of positions, including:

• Chief of the Office of Substance Abuse Services (1991-1997)
• Chief of the Division of Services to Crippled Children (1989-1991)
• Founding Chief of the Michigan Office of Minority Health (1988-1989)
• Chief of the Eastern Regional Division (1985-1989)

From 1978-1985, Karen held a variety of positions in the Office of Substance Abuse Services, including Deputy Chief of the Program Division and Detroit Area Supervisor.

Karen spent four years with the Michigan League for Human Services as a Policy & Research Associate prior to her twenty years in State Government. From 1995 to 2006, she was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy, teaching courses in Addiction Studies. She has served as a consultant to the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as a reviewer of federal grant applications since 1996. She has a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, both from Michigan State University. She has extensive service on national, state and local boards of directors and currently serves on the board of CityConnect Detroit, the State of Michigan HIV/AIDS Council and the City of Detroit Public Health Advisory Council. Karen was born and raised in Detroit, graduating from Cass Technical High School.
